Br 4-6-2 Locomotive Duchess Class 'Queen Elizabeth'
One BR Mk1 Composite Coach / Two BR Mk1 Brake Coaches
In earlier years the train which ultimately became the Lakes Express, only ran during the busy summer season - carrying holiday-makers to the Lake District, Blackpool and beyond. But by 1939 there was also a permanent, year-round, weekend service on the Euston-Windermere section - down on Fridays and Saturdays and up on Saturdays and Mondays. The Lakes Express returned to service after the war maintaining a journey time of 6 hrs 15 mins from Euston to Windermere, and a similar train continued in service until the summer of 1965, often hauled by Duchess Class locomotives in their declining years.
Hornby are proud to present this celebratory limited edition to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother's one hundredth birthday.
